Dance Is Life is thrilled to welcome Get Empowered! as a valued partner.
Founded and led by Executive Director Emi Gittleman and Co-Founder and Director Sabia Pineiro, Get Empowered! is a national organization powered by a collective of artists representing six continents and a wide range of art forms. Rooted in global cultures, creativity, and connection, Get Empowered! curates, produces, and leads cultural arts, education, entertainment, wellness, and community engagement programs and performances nationally for youth, family, and intergenerational audiences.
Their outreach work reaches communities in many spaces, from schools and summer camps to homeless shelters, festivals, celebrations, conferences, and community activations. Get Empowered! has a team of over 300 artists creating meaningful opportunities for people of all ages to learn, move, create, and connect, with the mission to empower and elevate people of all ages through the Arts!
Get Empowered! celebrates the richness of music and dance traditions from the Afro-Latin and Caribbean Diaspora while also uplifting the powerful cultural art forms, sounds, and styles born and created right here in New York City. Their team reflects the past, present, and future of the arts, grounded in a shared commitment to cultural preservation, community care, creativity, inclusivity, and the transformative power of movement.
Last summer, Dance Is Life began collaborating with Get Empowered! by welcoming children and teens from their programs into our cultural social dance events. The partnership sparked joy, connection, and a vibrant intergenerational energy that speaks directly to the heart of what Dance Is Life is all about.
This summer, we are proud to continue and deepen that partnership, after a 4-week-long youth program residency in Harlem and Brooklyn with youth ages 8 - 16 years old, culminating in a youth group showcase performance at our July 20 event in Central Park. With mentorship and classes provided by Dance Is Life co-founder Abdiel and Get Empowered! Staff: Emi, Porshia, Lucas, Bella, Cynthia, and Everton.
Together, we are building on a shared vision of community, culture, and the power of dance to bring generations together.
